The Senate has one number: $165.3 billon and the House has another: $160.2 billion, or $5.1 billion less. With a big gap between the House and the Senate budget numbers for the labor, health and education funding, the negotiations for the fiscal year 2012 budget and a continuing resolution could be continuous.

The Title VIII Nursing Workforce Development programs, which are administered by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), are the primary source of federal funding for nursing education and workforce development. These programs bolster nursing education at all levels, from entry-level preparation through the development of advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs). They also prepare faculty to teach the nation’s future nursing workforce.

Each year the President proposes a budget, while the budget that “authorizes” the monies Congress can spend on the Federal Government and its programs. However, in order for a program to get paid, Congress must then vote to “appropriate” the funds.

Before leaving for the campaign trail, both the House (228-194) and Senate (69-30) cleared a temporary funding measure (Continuing Resolution-CR) which will sustain most government operations at current, FY 2010 levels through December 3.
