Health Care Reform and the States
Friday, October 29th, 2010The frenetic pace with which passage of the Patient Protection and Affordability Care Act (PPACA) occurred is now obscured by the speed at which federal rules and regulations are now being drafted. States also face a number of challenges for implementation of the new law. Time is of the essence. Even states challenging the constitutionality of the law have begun to work on needed actions. The National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP) released a paper in 2009 depicting the actions states need to get right for successful implementation of the federal law. Although it was published before the law was enacted, the document remains a valuable tool for determining state priorities in achieving successful implementation of the federal health care law.
