ANA Supports Introduction of Safe Patient Handling Legislation in Senate

As longtime advocates for safe patient handling programs, the American Nurses Association (ANA) recently sent Senator Al Franken (D-MN) a letter of support for his introduction of “The Nurse and Health Care Worker Protection Act of 2009” (S. 1788). A Senate companion to H.R. 2381, S. 1788 would help improve patient safety and protect registered nurses and other health care workers from debilitating injuries that could force them from their professions.

CMS Withdraws Medicaid Rule Limiting Rehabilitative Services

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has withdrawn a controversial Medicaid proposal by the Bush administration to limit federal funding for rehabilitative services provided by child welfare, foster care, and other “nonmedical” programs.

ANA Testifies in DC – UEVHPA

On November 19th, the ANA testified before a joint hearing of the District of Columbia’s Committees on Health and Public Safety & Judiciary in support of 18-71, the Uniform Emergency Volunteer Health Practitioners Act of (UEVHPA) 2009. The primary goal of this Act is to recognize the licenses of out of state health care professionals, enabling licensees to cross state lines to volunteer their services during a declared emergency or disaster.
