Resolution Introduced in House to Recognize Certified Nurses Day

Representative Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX), one of three nurses serving in Congress, has introduced H. Res. 1158 to recognize Certified Nurses Day. Certified Nurses Day is a day of recognition to celebrate the contribution of board certified nurses to the advancement of nursing professionalism and to higher standards and better outcomes in patient health.

ANA staff traveled to two states recently in support of the state nurses association’s legislative efforts. On March 3rd, Janet Haebler, MSN, RN, Associate Director for ANA State Government Affairs delivered a key note address, “Harnessing Nursing’s Political Power” to 450 nurses and student nurses at the annual Connecticut Nurses Association’s (CNA) Legislative Day in Hartford. State Senator Harris and Representative Ritter described the legislature’s challenges during the current session, while CNA’s lobbyists and Mary Jane Williams, chair of CNA’s government relations committee briefed attendees on priorities for the session to which individuals would lobby.

BPA Ban Growing in States

March, 2010 was historic for two states when both Wisconsin and Washington State Governors signed into law bills that seek to eliminate the chemical bisphenol A (BPA) from baby bottles, sippy cups, and other children’s products.
