ANA and National Nurses Week Recognized on Capitol Hill
In honor of National Nurses Week, Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX), one of three nurses currently serving in Congress, has introduced House Resolution 1261. The resolution states that the House of Representatives recognizes the significant contributions of nurses to the health care system, and supports the goals and ideals of National Nurses Week as founded by the American Nurses Association. H. Res. 1261 also acknowledges the importance of higher education in nursing, including baccalaureate and graduate programs. Moreover, the resolution supports the nurse capacity initiatives for institutions of higher education included in the Higher Education Opportunity Act. As of Friday, April 30, H. Res. 1261 had garnered 77 cosponsors of the U.S. House of Representatives.
