On September 15, ANA Board Member and nurse practitioner Mary Maryland, PhD, MSN, APN, BC, testified on behalf of ANA before the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee hearing on “The Urgent Need for Health Insurance Reform.”

During her remarks, Dr. Maryland emphasized that bold action was needed from lawmakers to create a health care system that is responsive to the needs of consumers and provides equal access to safe, high-quality care for all in a cost-effective manner. “The U.S. health system remains in a state of crisis and stands as evidence of the futility of patchwork approaches to health care reform,” Dr. Maryland said. “The overwhelming problems of the health insurance system require significant action – now.” Read Dr. Maryland’s full testimony here.

ANA has been quite visible on Capitol Hill. On June 24, Donna Policastro, RNP, Executive Director, Rhode Island Nurses Association, testified before the House Ways and Means Committee and on June 25, Kathleen M. White, PhD, RN, CNAA, BC, Chair of Congress on Nursing Practice and Economics, gave testimony before the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
