On September 9, 2009, President Obama called on Congress to work together to pass meaningful health care reform. President Obama outlined reform that would bring stability and security to Americans who already have health insurance, guarantee affordable coverage for those who don’t and rein in the cost of health care. The following day, over 60 ANA nurses stood with the President at the White House to show ANA’s continued support for his efforts. Once again, President Obama showed his commitment to the nursing profession and their importance in the health care reform fight. ANA President Rebecca Patton, MSN, RN, CNOR, introduced the President, praising him for his understanding of the role nurses play in the health care system.
“[Nurses] believe that a health care system that is patient-centered, accessible, and delivers quality care for all is something that should not be a partisan or political issue,” President Patton said. Joining President Obama and President Patton on stage were ANA members Linda Gural, RN, CCRN, Naté Guyton, MSN, RN, and Sonia Reich, RN, BSN, CCRN.
